Chelsea's search for a replacement for Enzo Fernandez has hit a snag, according to Sky Sports, after Monaco pulled out of an agreed deal to sell midfielder Lamine Camara to the Blues.
Fernandez departed Stamford Bridge for Manchester City in a £125m move, a joint-record fee for a British club, prompting Chelsea to move for Camara as his successor. However, Monaco have since reversed course on the transfer.
Sky Sports reports that the French club's change of heart came after they successfully renegotiated the terms of Folarin Balogun's sale to Everton, easing the financial pressure that had initially pushed them towards cashing in on Camara.
With that deal now off the table, Chelsea will need to look elsewhere to bolster their midfield following Fernandez's blockbuster exit.
