Connah's Quay Nomads and Ballkani played out a goalless draw at Llanelian Road in the first leg of their Europa Conference League first qualifying round tie, a result that leaves everything to play for in the return fixture.
The Welsh side, backed by home advantage, held firm against the Kosovan champions in a tightly contested affair short on clear-cut chances but heavy on stoppages and cards. Ballkani's V. Serebe was the first to be booked, cautioned in the 18th minute, before Connah's Quay's C. West picked up a yellow of his own on 37 minutes.
Ballkani looked to freshen things up after the break, making a triple change just after the hour mark, sending on E. Kuc, A. Klinaku and A. Diene between the 65th and 70th minutes as they searched for a breakthrough. Connah's Quay responded with their own reshuffle, West making way for F. Deane and D. Stephenson coming on for M. Woodcock in the 73rd minute.
The game grew feisty late on, with J. Jones and I. Murray both booked for the hosts in the space of seven minutes. Both sides used their full allocation of substitutes as legs tired, with Ballkani's late double change in the 87th minute followed by Connah's Quay's own swap two minutes later.
Deep into stoppage time, Ballkani's A. Deliu was shown the game's final yellow card, capping a stalemate that sets up a finely poised second leg.
